PRP – Surgery

PRP is used in wound healing to reduce inflammation and accelerate soft tissue regeneration. The process begins tissue remodeling and regeneration through controlled inflammation, which we induce through mechanical damage (needle) and the presence of growth factors and leukocytes.

Growth factors are essential in the healing process because they are responsible for the rapid and proper reconstruction of tissues in the granulation phase and for angiogenesis. They are powerful substances that induce chemotaxis and proliferation and the production of protein matrix elements by fibroblasts and osteoblasts. In addition, they are responsible for angiogenesis and have a strong chemotactic effect on endothelial cells, fibroblasts, osteoblasts and macrophages.

Chronic wounds (or ulcers) are skin lesions that do not heal spontaneously, require a long time to heal, and periodically recur. Chronic wounds include pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, arterial ulcers (in the course of chronic ischemia), neurotrophic ulcers, and foot ulcers in people with diabetes (diabetic foot).

The beneficial effects of PRP have been found in the treatment of chronic wounds (including diabetic foot). In most cases, cyclic administration of PRP led to faster epithelialization and wound closure.

The growth factors contained in PRP (PDGF – platelet-derived growth factor, EGF – epidermal growth factor, TGF-β – transforming growth factor, VEGF – vascular endothelial growth factor, FGF – fibroblast growth factor) induce:

– Migration of mesenchymal stem cells

– Increased collagen synthesis

-Angiogenesis

– Proliferation of epidermal cells

– Creation of new collagen and elastin fibers
