What to consider and how to effectively select air sterilization equipment to ensure SAFETY FOR STAFF AND PATIENTS IN MEDICAL UNITS
A short guide for the future user:
Even though there has been a recent surge in sterilization devices, it is worth checking the parameters of a given device and choosing an effective one – after all, it is a purchase for years to come, intended to guarantee safety in the workplace.
1. Ozonators, open UV lamps, UV flow lamps and new but expensive sterilization technologies (mainly used in advanced medical and scientific units) are available on the market.
2. Some effective sterilization methods (ozonator, open UV lamp) require 1-6 hours of work and closing the office (or working overnight). Let's also remember that after the doctor and patient enter the office, it is no longer sterile without ensuring continuity of the process. After opening the facility, everyone cares about continuous safety during the procedure. Therefore, it is worth looking for a device that can work safely and continuously in the presence of people with possible support of the above methods for the time of closure.
3. UV flow devices, consist of sucking air through a fan and exposing it to UV radiation (the most effective UV-C 253,7 nm). Everything happens in the device housing, so there is no exposure of harmful UV light to the user (they operate in the presence of people).
However, it is important to know that too high air flow m3/h without the appropriate UV lamp power will not ensure an appropriate sterilization process. Instead of a sterilizer, we get a device that will blow 160m3/h through the office, and in reality, sterilization of such a surface takes 10 times longer and will be ineffective. The reason is too weak/short exposure of the air to UV rays. Surely no one wants to buy equipment that is only supposed to serve a representative function for the patient?
4. Undoubtedly, a great advantage will be the quiet operation of the device, so as not to create additional irritating factors for the user during many hours of work. Here, devices usually have from 20-70 dB.
5. It is also worth getting acquainted with the product tests (not the element, e.g. the lamp itself) regarding the effectiveness of sterilization. In combination with forced air flow (installed fan), the lamp operating parameters and the impact of UV rays change, which should be checked by the manufacturer.
6. Depending on the user's preferences, there is also the visual aspect and dimensions of the device. Few customers would like to put a device the size of a concert speaker in their office. It is therefore worth checking the dimensions of the devices - here the range of forms is huge depending on the manufacturer and model.
7. For people who will use the device in different rooms, the low weight of the device will play an important role, which they will easily move to the place of their choice. It is usually related to the dimensions and materials from which the device is made. You can usually find products from 4 kg to 25 kg.
